Data Facts recommends annual MVR checks for all employees where driving is an essential job function or for those who must obtain rental cars during the course of conducting company business. Motor vehicle records will include driving history for at least 3 years depending on state. This information can be accessed by an outside agency on the employer's behalf. The alternative is to have the applicant go to the DMV to obtain their own record. This is not practical in most cases and is subject to fraud.
