For Data Facts to thoroughly process your background screening reports, we need your help!  Following the guidelines below will help us to expedite your background screening requests.

1.  The difference between federal records and national records:

Federal Records — 7 yr. search of the US Federal District Court for all criminal charges under a specific jurisdiction. Please note that federal records DO NOT include felony/misdemeanor criminal records at the county and state level (your everyday crimes).  For these records, you need to request a county or statewide search.

Federal crimes include kidnapping, tax evasion, counterfeiting, damaging or destroying mailboxes, art theft, arson, assault, immigration offences, and more recently, assassinating the President, though it wasn't deemed a federal crime until after President John F. Kennedy's death.

A national search is a database search for records providing a tool to expand the geographic range to identify possible records from other locations.  We advise that this tool be used in conjunction with more precise searches of county or state courts.
The records found on the National Criminal database are typically only a name match or name & DOB match.  It provides us with any identifying information it has (address, name, alias, DOB) but very rarely matches by SSN.

2.    The majority of records are matched by name and Date of Birth.

Due to recent privacy acts, very few courts actually search by SSN or are able to use it as an identifier. The name entered into search is the only name that will be checked in that court.  This is why we strongly recommend searching all AKA names and counties in the past 7 years to get the most comprehensive search. Also double check to be sure the name entered is accurate.

3.  When entering an AKA name or prior address for us to check, please either add this as a service under each name/county you want, or request for us to do these searches manually. If you only enter this information in the report under the applicant's personal info, we are not notified to perform these searches.
