The term “cookie cutter” can be used to describe anything that is mass produced quickly and, generally, of low quality. The end result is often predictable-recycled, identical, unoriginal.  A cookie-cutter drug testing policy based on a “one-size-fits-all” policy template is impractical and possibly a recipe for disaster. Because no two companies are alike, no two drug testing policies should be identical. Establishing a clear-cut policy based on a company’s specific drug testing objectives that reflects all applicable state laws requires a customized approach to writing a policy.

Join Bill Current, President and Founder of the Current Consulting Group, as he discusses the eight essential components of an effective drug testing policy from the purpose statement, to who to test, as well as when and how to test.  Also, as an added bonus he will highlight how to combat marijuana use in a drug testing program, even where marijuana use is legal.

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will:

  • Identify a drug testing policy’s purpose, coverage and prohibited conduct.
  • Review the role of supervisors and what training is needed for them as well as for employees.
  • Discuss how to treat drug and alcohol testing in a policy, including how state laws impact these procedures.
  • Review possible consequences for policy violations.

Bonus Topic: How to address marijuana in an updated drug testing policy
